Based upon the Herbarius, printed by Schoeffer in 1484 (Goff H62). Sometimes incorrectly treated as a German translation of the Hortus Sanitatis, a later different work, first printed by Jacob Meydenbach in 1491 (Goff H486), that was also based on the Herbarius. Cf. Goff.

Printed on Median sized paper in one column; 42 lines to a full page; area of text: 195 x 122 mm. With initial spaces without guide-letters; without signatures, foliation, or catchwords. Printer’s device at end.
Contains nearly 400 woodcut illustrations, mostly of plants and a few animals. Full-page wood-cut illustration on leaf [1]v depicts an assembly of 13 physicians, 3 seated, in front of a 2-pillared arcade; at left is a fruit tree, at right is a palm tree. Cf. Schreiber.

NLM copy, imperfect: leaves [1], [8], [72], [81], [88], [272-273], [328-330], [335-360] (360 blank) wanting. Leaf [333] mutilated at bottom, with extensive loss of text on the recto and of the ill. on the verso. Close trimming has cropped several ill. at the botton, including that of the female mandragora on leaf [208]v and some of the text on leaf [281]r.
NLM copy, rubrication: initials and paragraph marks in alternating red and blue. Illustrations colored in green, yellow, red, and blue of various shades.
